You can probably still play it with everything including resolution set to low.

I just pre-ordered AoC in spite of the problems I mentioned earlier. The May to September will be a relatively lean period in WoW, so I need something to play!

Check out this thread here - Which MMO does AoC feel like the most to you?

We're going to love it I think o.O. Think Guild Wars with an open explorable world, much better PVE with an explorable world and 80 levels, while PVP only has 20 levels and seperate armor to PVE, and great great great combat, and amazing graphics, and OMG why havnt you preordered it already

Reccomended specs to enjoy the game with good details (Ignore the official specs, they have underspecced in the graphics department to sell more copies, my reccomendations in brackets):

Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz+
2 Gb Ram (I reccomend 3-4 Gb)
7900 GTX (I reccomend ATI HD 3870 or Geforce 9600 GT and better).

And Vista is highly reccomended for DX10 goodness:

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/487/1/

And the minimum requirements are a joke.

Intel Pentuim 4 3.0 Ghz
1 Gb ram (no no no !!! 2Gb!)
Nvidia 6600 (Again no, a 7600 GT for acceptable frame rates)

You can play on XP with a good DX9 card too, just have to use a lower resolution and turn a lot of eye candy off.

TBH a PC to run AoC isnt very expensive nowadays anyway. If you stick to what I suggest in brackets, you will fully enjoy the game. The extra amount of ram I suggest is a must if you are playing in Vista.

The healing in AoC is completely originnal, and not as overpowered as it is in GW. Healing is a lot less effective then in other MMO's, but is still balanced enough with the mechanics of AoC.

Rather then clicking on and targetting an ally, the priest has cone shaped heals and needs to postition themselves correctly in a battle to heal their allies. This also allows priests to focus on fighting their enemies and using their offensive spells, while healing at the same time.

I am definatley going to create a Tempest of Set. They are one of the three healing classes and are a hybrid priest and mage class. They have powerful offensive lightning based spells, and thunder based priest heals. One of their skill trees resolves around damaging your foes and chaining your offensive lightning spells with certain combos (mortal combat style!) to gain temporary buffs to your healing abilities.

Tempest of Set is what I'm starting off as well. I have a Black Temple/Sunwell raiding guild in WoW which I'll move to AoC as a PvP+raiding guild if everything goes well, and one thing I've learned through 3 years of raiding is healers are the backbone

One of the hardest decisions to make is what type of server to start on. In EQ, a PvP server usually meant idiot 13 year olds trying to gank you all day, so I started WoW on a PvE server back then. That turned out to be a huge mistake because
a) 90% of the top raiding guilds are from PvP server
b) Most of the high rated arena teams are from PvP server
c) You can transfer from PvP to PvE, but not from PvE to PvP

So deciding which server to start on is a headache.

Make one on each.

BTW, if I get it I'll probably make a guardian or conqueror as my main.

Im definately playing on a PVP server for the first time in an MMO, particularly after hearing rumors of a bounty system on players! No idea how it will work yet though, but I guess that (in my completely unconfirmed opinion) people that go around killing others for fun (sorry, I just soooo need to do this) will end up with a bounty, and killing this godly player with 50 consecutive kills will net you a reward and reset his kill count. So the more you kill others, the more you are going to be hunted for the bounty on your head.

This is just speculation though, but funcom have said there is a bounty system in the game.

Oh, and the character limit is a little messed up right now. We have been told we can make 8 characters, but it is uncertain if they meant 8 characters in total across all servers (this seems more likely) or 8 characters per server (from the wording of the 8 characters information, this seems unlikely).

Hmmm I'm still deciding what server to start on.

Guys you gotta post your new IGN's here. No point being friendless in a new game is there?

Brief explanation about server types to help decide :

PvE: You are only able to attack other players freely when in the Border Kingdoms.

PvP: You can attack other players when in the normal zones. The only exceptions are the guild city zones and hubs.

RP-PvP: Same as PvP except that there are rules of engagement.

Need? no. Want? Yes. The game engine requirements would be something similar to Assassin's Creed. But the big difference in MMOs is that you're rendering upto 200 characters on screen instead of 3. So you'll have to turn down resolution and graphics quality to get acceptable frame rates.

How's the multithreading part? Does it make use of more then 2 cores?

Anything that really bothers you about this game, especially regarding stability, playability?

Gotta read more about the servers. I have no experience in other MMOs (besides GW - yeye, no discussion about that please) so I wouldn't want to get killed every 2 metres (exaggerated of course) but also not play in some La-La-Land where I can hug my enemies.

I don't think it makes use of more than 2 cores. I already mentioned my concerns about the game in the last page. Honestly, I'd expect the first 2 months after launch to be bumpy while they're fixing stuff, stabilizing servers, adding the quests/mobs/areas that they couldn't finish in time for release.

Also I'd expect the first 2 months to be a huge gankfest on PvP servers. After that people will have a better idea that 'Oh if I spend time on crafting/sieges/organized pvp/raiding/questing etc its more fun than killing people randomly'.

Having looked into the game a bit more and watched some of the beta video's on youtube it seems epic.

A guildie was in the beta too, he was fanatic about how you can distribute where you're defenses go and that kinda stuff (i don't know a lot about it) and it sounds very interesting.

Just wondering if any of you pc buffs reckon my setup'll take it, i think it will but i honestly dunno how useless or not my processor is. Anyway:

Windows xp
Intel Pentium D 2.8ghz
2gb (4x512)
8800Gt

Any insight would be very nice thanks =)

That single core is killing your GFX power. Get 2x1GB sticks, it'll be quicker.
